Our Awards Categories & Awards Eligibility

Our awards are open to all small and micro businesses. From sole traders to limited companies and social enterprises.

The definition of a micro business is: Your company will be a micro-entity if it has any 2 of the following:

  • a turnover of £632,000 or less
  • £316,000 or less on its balance sheet
  • 10 employees or less.

The definition of a ‘small business’ is: Your business will be ‘small’ if it has any 2 of the following:

  • a turnover of £10.2 million or less
  • £5.1 million or less on its balance sheet
  • 50 employees or less.

Service Small Business

Highlighting businesses that excel in providing exceptional services, the Service Business category. From chimney sweeps to party planners and carpet fitters.

Beauty Small Business

With passion, skill, and a commitment to uplifting their clients, these entrepreneurs exemplify excellence in the ever-evolving world of beauty. From salons, spas and product businesses we showcase the best in beauty!

Food & Drink Small Business Finalists

Celebrating the culinary artisans and establishments that bring delectable flavours to the community. Whether it's a cosy café, a vibrant restaurant, or a creative food vendor or manufacturer.

Hairdressing Small Business Finalists

Recognising excellence in the hairdressing industry, open to hairstylists, salons, wedding hair artists and hair extension businesses.

Trades Small Business

The trades industry relies on skilled craftspeople, including electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and mechanics. These are generally service-oriented industries.

Health & Wellbeing Small Business

Focusing on businesses in the health and wellbeing space, this category includes health clinics, fitness studios, wellness centres.

Arts & Creative Small Business Finalists

Celebrating businesses that contribute to the vibrancy of the arts and creative industries, this category includes everything from galleries and studios to dance clubs and entertainers.

Professional Services Small Business

This category celebrates businesses that offer specialised and expert professional services and B2B services. From legal and financial services to consulting and advisory roles.

Retail Small Business

This category recognises outstanding retail businesses that offer exceptional products, and create memorable shopping experiences both in person, online or on the high street.

Young Entrepreneur

Recognising the energy and innovation of young business leaders, this category celebrates entrepreneurs who have achieved remarkable success at a young age (under 25)

New Small Business

Highlighting the spirit of entrepreneurship, this category honours recently established businesses. (started within the last 18 months)

Small Business Owner

This category honours individuals who have shown exceptional management skills, strategic vision, and a commitment to the success of their business.

Customer Service Award

This category celebrates businesses that prioritise exceptional customer care, and great processes that are setting the standard for customer service excellence.

Community Award

Nominees in this category have demonstrated a commitment to community development, social responsibility, and initiatives that strengthen the bonds within the community they serve.

Innovation Award

This category recognises businesses that push the boundaries of innovation, whether through groundbreaking products, cutting-edge services, or revolutionary business practices.

Overall Small Business Of The Year

This award for the overall winner for the county is awarded to the highest-scoring business across the whole competition and all catagories.
